Privacy policy
Wingspeak has no accounts and no server of its own. Your profile, your practice history and your recordings stay on your iPhone. We do not sell data, we do not show ads, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
Wingspeak is an app for student pilots who practise radio calls with a simulated air traffic controller. MobileMage makes Wingspeak. This policy says what the app does with your data, and who else gets any of it.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your profile: your call sign, region, aircraft type, level and settings.
- Your practice history: the lessons that you flew, the result of each call, your achievements and your days in a row.
- Your recordings: the app records each call that you make in a lesson, so that you can play it in the debrief.
- Your speech model: the iPhone builds a speech model from the app's lessons and your call sign, so that it hears radio words better.
None of this goes to us. Your iPhone backup can include it, as for any app. The app leaves the speech model out of the backup, because the iPhone can build it again.
Speech recognition
The app turns your calls into text with Apple's speech recognizer, and it asks for recognition on your iPhone. If your iPhone has no on-device model for the language of the lesson, iOS can send the call to Apple's servers. Apple's privacy policy covers that. The app never sends your calls to a server of ours.
Purchases
Apple handles the payment for the Checkride Pass. We never see your card or your Apple Account. RevenueCat, our purchase service, gets an anonymous ID, the purchase record from Apple and basic device data, such as the iOS version and the app version. It uses them to confirm your pass and to restore it on another iPhone. RevenueCat's privacy policy covers that.
What you choose to send
- The instructor report is a PDF that the app makes on your iPhone. You choose who gets it.
- "Request your airport" and "Report a phraseology issue" open your mail app with an email to our support address. We get what you write and your email address. We use them only to answer you, to add the airport or to correct the lesson.
Permissions
The app asks for the microphone, to hear your calls, and it can ask for speech recognition, to turn your calls into text. You can turn each one off in the iOS Settings app. Without them, the app cannot hear your calls.
Children
Wingspeak is for student pilots. It is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Deleting your data
Delete the app to remove everything that it keeps on your iPhone. To delete the emails that you sent us, or to ask RevenueCat to delete your purchase record, write to us.
Changes
If a later version of the app sends data to a server, or adds another service, we change this policy first and show the new date at the top.
